M-Power U - Southeast Iowa Youth Leadership Academy

Wapello High School Junior's Eryka Dickey and Aiden Housman will visit with state law makers as part of the Southeast Iowa Youth Leadership Academy's M-Power U group. The two will join 24 other student's from 12 other local High School's and 82 other local leaders as they meet with state law makers to talk with them about their priorities for the region.

Some of the topics that the students will visit with law makers about will include a focus on underage alcohol abuse, misuse of unemployment benefits, and exposure to a second language at a young age, according to an article published in The Burlington Hawkeye on Sunday, March 3, 2019.

All of the students in the class will present three position statements throughout the day with state law makers.  They will also get a chance to tour the House and Senate Chambers at the capitol, attend a legislative reception, participate in a panel discussion with legislative leadership, visit the Iowa Hall of Pride, and tour the Department of Criminal Investigation Criminalistics Lab before returning to the Southeast Iowa area.
