Wapello Wrestling

Congratulations to four Wapello High School Wrestlers that were named to the Muscatine Journal's 2019 All-Area Wrestling Team.

Three of the four wrestlers that were selected from Wapello High School were named to the first team, those included Colton Meeker at 113 pounds, Mitchell Moore at 120 pounds, and Daniel Meeker at 126 pounds.  Christopher Ewart was selected on the At-Large Team at 132 pounds.

Colton Meeker, 113 Pounds

Year: Senior

His season: 23-5 (State Qualifier, District Runner-Up, Sectional and SEISC Champion)

What Coach Rocky Hamilton had to say about Colton:  "For being out half the season, he dislocated his kneecap and was out until after Christmas, coming back from that I though he had a pretty good year.  He might have fell a little short, he could have made the podium but made a costly mistake at the state tournament.  He had a good year and beat a few kids that placed."

Mitchell Moore, 120 Pounds

Year: Junior

His season: 22-10 (State Qualifier, District and Sectional Champion, SEISC Runner-Up)

What Coach Rocky Hamilton had to say about Mitchell: "His goal was to come in and place top six but he fell a little short of that. Going into the state tournament he was wrestling the best he ever had. I know he's going to work hard in the off season and is going to be better next year. He's a hard worker, explosive and a good kid."

Daniel Meeker, 126 Pounds

Year: Junior

His season: 35-6 (Fourth Place at State, District, Sectional, and SEISC Champion)

What Coach Rocky Hamilton had to say about Daniel: "The kid does everything right and does anything you tell him. He's very coachable, works hard and has a good attitude. He finished second last year but the toughness of every bracket is different every year. He ran into a freshman phenom and a kid who got third last year. He wrestled well at the state tournament and ended up fourth."

Christopher Ewart, 132 Pounds

Year: Sophomore

His season: 24-14 (State Qualifier, District, Sectional, and SEISC Champion)

What Coach Rocky Hamilton had to say about Christopher: "He had a really good year. Chris is a very hard worker and is more of a brawler-style wrestler. He's very athletic and does alright in those positions. It was a good year for him and hopefully he'll put some time in and get on the podium next year."
