I enjoy working with the people of Wapello Community School District. Our district is small and personable. The people of our district are caring and compassionate people. Not only do I work in this district, but my husband and I have had 4 of our children graduate from this school district and still have 2 enrolled. So thankful for all the staff that have helped us raise our children in this community. The saying “it takes a village” definitely holds true to our school district.

Tricia Lanz, Full Time Substitute Teacher

Eric Small, School Business Official
As a proud Graduate (96) of the Wapello Community School District, Wapello prepared me for life beyond the walls of High School. I am proud to work for the largest employer in this community that genuinely cares for the students individually. Wapello offers competitive pay and an excellent benefits package to our eligible staff. The staff is a strong-knit group that cares about each other and comes together when there is a need, whether among our own staff or in the community.

Our Community...What's in Wapello...
Wapello, Iowa, population 1,898 (2020 Census), situated along the banks of the Iowa River and just miles from the Mississippi River. Wapello is the county seat of Louisa County. Wapello is just 30 miles from Burlington and Muscatine, Iowa, and only 60 miles from the Quad-Cities and Iowa City metro areas. Wapello is often referred to as a “Sportsman’s Paradise” due to its proximity to Lake Odessa, a 3,000-acre lake that allows abundant hunting, fishing, and boating opportunities. Wapello is also home to the Mark Twain National Wildlife Refuge, allowing residents to explore nature in their own backyards. Wapello has a new city swimming pool and an eighteen-hole golf course just a few miles outside town. Several new subdivisions in town have seen exponential new housing growth. Wapello also is home to several light manufacturing facilities. Youth recreation and sporting events are plentiful for children in the district through city leagues and school-sanctioned sports and activities. The Wapello FFA Chapter also produces the anchor event of the summer hometown celebration. The Wapello PRO Rodeo is the only PRCA Rodeo in the United States produced by an FFA Chapter.
