Staff Feature - Matthew Murray

Today's Staff Feature Friday puts the spotlight on one of our High School Social Studies Teachers, Mr. Matthew Murray.  Mr. Murray resides in Burlington along with his wife Lynda, and their two sons, Harrison and Trenton.

Mr. Murray holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Iowa in Communications, and Education with a minor in Sociology.  He holds a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Western Illinois University.  Mr. Murray has spent 18 years in the Education Field and is completing his first year as a Full-Time Employee with the Wapello Community School District.  He also completed a Long Term Substitute Assignment with Wapello during the 2017-2018 school year.

In his spare time, you can find Mr. Murray restoring a 1978 Trans Am and also restoring his 1895 Victorian Home.  Aside from those two projects, he also enjoys golf and traveling.

When asked what he likes about working for the Wapello Community School District, Mr. Murray had this to say: "Wapello Schools is like coming home. I went to school at Notre Dame High School in Burlington, Iowa. It's a small school. Everyone knew everyone. You had opportunities to be involved in many different activities. To be successful, everyone rowed in the same direction. Being at Wapello reminds me of my days at ND. A small town school where everybody knows your name. There is a real sense of community and pride at Wapello. Everyone (students, staff, school board, and community), has a commitment to excellence. It is visible in the upkeep of the facilities, professional teaching instruction, diverse appreciation others, competition in sports, the emphasis of the arts, and the positive attitude and smiles on the faces of students we serve. The Wapello School District is a progressive, forward-thinking, 21st Century student-centered" educational center. I am thankful and very appreciative to be apart of Wapello Schools."

Congratulations Mr. Murray, for being selected as our staff member to be featured for this week, check back next week to see which staff member we feature to let you get to know them better!
