We are excited to welcome Mrs. Delores Wykert back to the #WeAreWapello family! Mrs. Wykert is returning to Wapello Elementary where she will be teaching Kindergarten! Mrs. Wykert has spent 15 years working in the education field, she started out as a paraeducator at Morning Sun, then came to Wapello Elementary and Wapello Jr High before moving on to a teaching career that started out at Roundy Elementary in Columbus Junction as a Special Education Teacher. She is a graduate of William Penn University. Her family includes her husband Andy, and her children Hunter, Shelby (Blake) Odle, Bryar, and Kaydee. In her spare time, you will find Mrs. Wykert enjoying time with her family, boating on the river, and yard work. Although she will miss her Roundy family, she is so excited to be back "home" at Wapello! Welcome back, Mrs. Wykert, we are excited for what lies ahead for you this school year and we know that the students at Wapello Elementary will be excited to see a familiar face back in the hallways! Congratulations to our former FFA Advisor, Mr. Irv Meier. Mr. Meier was inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair today. Mr. Meier’s history of working with students dates back a few decades, and even though he has retired from teaching full time, you can still find him working with students almost on a daily basis. He has produced many State Champion CDE Teams and continues to work with a 4-H group judging livestock. Congratulations, Mr. Meier on this achievement, you are certainly deserving of this honor. Come meet your teachers, drop off your school supplies and get ready for an AMAZING year! Surplus Athletic Uniforms and Other Items… We will be selling surplus uniforms/equipment on August 22nd from 6-7PM during “Back to School” night at the high school, in the cafeteria. Two more opportunities will be during the home football game on September 2nd (versus LM) and September 16 (homecoming versus Pekin). Items include boys and girls basketball uniforms from the mid 90s - early 2000s. Basketball shooting shirts, volleyball uniforms from the 90s-2000s, soccer apparel, golf bags, sports tumblers, and unsold tshirts. Everything will be priced extremely cheap!!! There will be no holds and early sales will not be possible.

We are excited to welcome Mrs. Olivia Hyde to the #WeAreWapello family! Mrs. Hyde will join the staff at the Wapello Jr/Sr High and will be teaching Middle School English/Language Arts. Mrs. Hyde holds degrees from St. Ambrose University (BA In Journalism and Creative Writing) and Grand Canyon University (MA in Secondary Education in English). Her family includes her husband Tim, and their two cats, Leo and Feral. In her spare time, you can find Mrs. Hyde reading, playing guitar, playing video games, watching movies, and writing. We are excited that Mrs. Hyde has chosen the Wapello Community School District to continue her professional career, please help us welcome her to our staff! #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride

Wapello High School would like to welcome Mr. Andrew Rompot to the #WeAreWapello family for the 2022-2023 school year. Mr. Rompot will be teaching High School Social Studies. He also will be coaching Junior High and High School Cross Country as well as Junior High Track. Mr. Rompot is a graduate of Iowa State University and comes to Wapello as a recent graduate, this will be Mr. Rompot's first teaching job, and we are excited add him to our staff. His family includes his high school sweetheart, Catie. In his spare time, you will find Mr. Rompot running, playing board games, watching the Packers/ISU, and reading, his favorite author is Stephen King. We are excited that Mr. Rompot chose to join the staff at Wapello High School and we are looking forward to the great things he will do with our students and athletes this school year. Say hello to Wapello Elementary School's newest 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Darby Tackenberg! Mrs. Tackenberg is a graduate of Iowa State University and has taught for four years prior to joining the staff at Wapello Elementary. Mrs. Tackenberg's family consists of her husband Jacob, and her daughter Reece. In her spare time, Mrs. Tackenberg enjoys baking, going on walks, reading, and exercising. We are excited for Mrs. Tackenberg to join our staff and we know that her students will be just as excited to welcome her to Wapello and make her first year here a memorable one! We would like to introduce our new staff that will be joining the #WeAreWapello team this fall. Our first new staff member that we would like to welcome is Mrs. Jennifer Swope. Mrs. Swope will be joining the staff this year as the Director of Bands. She has been busy working with our High School Band students already this summer during the 2022 Band Camp. Mrs. Swope graduated from Iowa State University and comes to Wapello with six years of teaching experience in other districts. She is joined by her husband Tyler and and her children, Beau and Charlotte. In her spare time, you can find Mrs. Swope spending time with her family. We are excited to welcome Mrs. Swope and her family to Wapello and are looking forward to her working with our students in the music program this year!
