Serah Shafer is the daughter of Debbie Shafer and the late Richard Shafer. Serah left her mark on WHS, participating in softball, volleyball, basketball, track, and band. She was also a member of FCA, FFA, National Honor Society, student council, and the PBIS student committee. Mrs. Marshall and Mrs. Ungerer had the biggest impact on Serah in high school. Mrs. Marshall taught Serah that struggles are good, and that you can’t grow without struggle. “Her classes taught me so much, not just about math, but about life as well.” About Mrs. Ungerer, Serah states, “Her joy of school, teaching, and life is very contagious. She never fails to put a smile on my face, and I look forward to her class because her lessons are very interesting and she also teaches us what life is all about.” Serah will attend Upper Iowa University in the fall to continue her education and play softball. She leaves with this advice for underclassmen, “Don’t take your time in high school for granted.” We wish you the best, Serah!

Teacher Appreciation
Ellee Gillette is a graduating senior who has this advice for underclassmen, “Find that one aspect of yourself that makes you unique and roll with it. Colleges, Scholarships, and Jobs look for people who stand out. Bring something new to the table.” Ellee is the daughter of Mark and Suzanne Gillette. She has participated in several activities including: volleyball, track, football cheerleading, art club, and National Honor Society. She is also a four year member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Mrs. Marshall is a teacher who Ellee “admire[s] Mrs. Marshall because she is not only sweet and caring, but insanely smart as well. I could bring any math related question to her and she would make it her one mission to figure out how to complete it.” After high school, Ellee plans to attend the University of Iowa on the pre-law track before entering the university’s College of Law. Good Luck, Ellee!

The last four years at Wapello High School for Emmalee Lanz have taught her many lessons - the lesson she would pass down to the underclassmen would be to “Prioritize. Manage your time wisely so you aren't stressed during the fun times.” Emmalee has been involved in several activities such as FCCLA, Student Council, and National Honor Society. Emmalee says that the most influential teacher in her education is Mrs. Marshall because she, “has always had a happy and positive mindset, and as a student that is something I have always appreciated. This last semester I took a college math class, and she never once hesitated to help me. Always going out of her way to make sure I understood everything. Mrs. Marshall has not only been a teacher these last four years, but a friend.” Emmalee is the daughter of Regan and Tricia Lanz. After graduation, Emmallee plans to enter the Dental Hygiene program at Indian Hills Community College. Best wishes, Emmalee!

Joe Lugo is the son of Rich and Amy Lugo. During high school, Joe has been a participant in the FFA group. Joe says that the best advice he could give the underclassmen would be to “do good in school and don’t disrespect teachers.” Joe says that Tina Pforts has been the most influential staff member for him because she understands what his capabilities are. After high school, Joe plans to attend Southeastern Community College to become a welder. Good Luck, Joe!
