Our Wapello Indians Track and Field Team will be heading to Des Moines well represented and ready to compete in FIVE, yes FIVE different events later this week. “Stay true to yourself.” Something Dakota Lamb did will walking the halls of WHS. Dakota was a member of the Indians basketball team while in high school. He states, “Mr. Spielbauer taught me a lot about hard work and staying dedicated to your goals. Dakota is the son of Trishia Lamb and Tim Lamb. After graduating from high school, Dakota plans to enter the workforce. Do great things, Dakota!

Coy Peters is the oldest son of Derek Peters and Sarah Dotson is a 2022 graduate of Wapello High School. Coy is an active four wheel rider and enjoys spending time with his younger brother, Crew. After high school, Coy plans to attend Muscatine Community College. Congratulations, Coy!

Elementary parents: Grades K-2 Concert is Tuesday, May 17 @ 5pm. HS Auditorium. Please have your child meet in the HS music room at 4:40pm. Information was sent home. Please check take home folder. Grades 3-5 Concert is also Tuesday, May 17 @ 6pm. HS auditorium. Please have your child meet in the HS music room at 5:40pm. Music shirts will be handed out right before the concert. Concert admission will be a free will donation.

The Indians Soccer team will be the number 6 seed in this year's SEISC Tournament. The Indians will face off with Columbus, the number 3 seed tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Columbus High School (NOTE THE CHANGE IN LOCATION AND TIME) for the first round action. Due to the heat and the warm conditions inside the classrooms, Wapello Community Schools will be dismissing today, Friday, May 13, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.

“You know very well who you are, don't let ‘em hold you down, reach for the stars!” Words of advice from Kekai Seumanutafa, son of Jonelle Klattenhoff. At WHS, Kekai has been a member of the track, football, and wrestling teams. He also credits Mr. Parsons as his most influential teacher because he “Always believed in me and influenced me not only in the classroom but also on the field. Taught me how to get out of my comfort zone, build confidence and reach for higher opportunities.” After high school, Kekai plans to attend Des Moines Area Community College. Good Luck, Kekai!

Mr. Murray and Ms. Bostian are senior Noah Garr’s most influential staff members. Noah says that Mr. Murray, “always intimidated me to get my work done for his class. in some cases I feel like he has helped me become a better man.” He says Ms. Bostian, “Jane always helped me and put a smile on my face.” Noah has been a football manager for two and half years at WHS. He tells underclassmen to “Never let your guard down. Keep your head held High. And don't let someone tell you that you can't do something.” Noah Garr is the son of Anthony Garr and Bridget Pierce. After high school, Noah plans to work for MUSCO Lighting and attend Southeastern Community College to complete his welding diploma. Congratulations, Noah!

Thomas Warnstaff is the son of Jeff Warnstaff and Amanda Harris. Throughout high school, Thomas says that Mr. Murray was his favorite teacher because “he tells it how it is.” Thomas participated in track and field at WHS and plans to attend Southeastern Community College in the Construction Technology Program. Thomas tells the underclassmen to “not take things too seriously and don’t be afraid to take a break when you need it.” Best of Luck, Thomas!

Graduating senior, Kirstin Bueker is the daughter of Bobbi Jo Garza. Her advice to underclassmen is to “do your homework, dudes!” Throughout her high school career, Kirstin has participated in FFA, Choir (Wapetonics), drama, Art Club, GSA, stage crew, German Club, and the school/community planning committee. Kirstin also says that Ms. Bostian has been her most influential teacher because she “is understanding and has taught [her] many things.” After graduating from WHS, Kirstin plans to attend Southeastern Community College to earn her Welding Certification. Congratulations, Kirstin!

The Wapello art dept. had a good showing at the conference art show held on the SCC campus. These seven art works are now home in Wapello and on view at the Keck public library, through Wednesday. Also on view is the sixth grade ceramic aquarium scene.

“Do your work.” That is the advice Kolton Shepard has for students at WHS. Kolton is the son of Rusty and Teri Shepard. Mr. Dunham is the teacher who influenced Kolton the most because he taught him a lot in the shop. Kolton plans to become an electrician after graduation. Best of luck, Kolton!
