July 24, 2020 update:
It's been a while since I've sent out an update, so here are some of the latest developments as we prepare for school in the fall. ***The first student day will be August 24th. ***We are not planning a back to school night this year. Kids can bring their supplies on the first day of school. If you would prefer to bring supplies ahead of time, please contact the elementary or high school and make arrangements. ***There will be an orientation for 6th graders. More information on that to come. ***The governor has relaxed the requirements for people who want to be substitute teachers. Anyone with a two-year degree and who has completed the substitute authorization course through the AEA can serve as a substitute teacher. I will send out the link to the course in a separate message. ***Remember that our reopening matrix is posted on our website. ***The IHSAA, just this afternoon, released some preliminary information on football. The first two weeks of competition appear to be optional. Schools can schedule games if they wish. The rest of the season will be as normal. All teams will participate in postseason play. More information is coming next week. We haven't heard anything about other fall sports. Face coverings continue to be a controversial topic for many people. We continue to follow the recommendation of local public health, which is to allow face coverings, but not to require them. HS Food Pantry will be open on Thursday, July 23rd, from 2:00-4:00.
The Wapello CSD Food Pantry will be open Thursday, July 23rd from 2:00 - 4:00 in the brown building across from the elementary school. Please limit 2 people per household that enter the building to shop. This will allow us to get everyone in to shop in a timely manner. We have a limited supply of milk, shredded cheese, butter, cream cheese, fresh produce, as well as other new items. Masks are required to shop, we will provide one if you do not have your own.
Wapello FFA will have their Parent Member Banquet in the WHS Auditorium on July 27. There will be no meal this year. The awards will start at 6:30. New officers will be installed at the end of the awards ceremony. The banquet was originally scheduled at the rodeo grounds but has been moved to the auditorium do to uncertain weather forecast. We ask that FFA members try to have Official Dress (but if that is challenging, please dress in good casual). We ask that families sit together and that you social distance between families. Masks are encouraged but not required

It's time for a POOL PARTY! There will be a 5th Grade Graduation Pool Party on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 from 8:00-9:30 p.m. at the Wapello Pool for all of the 5th graders from the 19-20 school year.

Great River Athletic Training would like to begin baseline testing for our athletes. Due to the pandemic they will be changing the baseline testing process slightly to ensure social distancing occurs. E-mails have been sent all of the incoming Freshman class athletes, Junior class athletes, and anyone that sustained a concussion in 2019-2020 year. The email contains links for the computer test and registration process for the paper test. Any students that plan on participating in any athletics for the 2020-2021 year will need to complete both parts of the baseline testing. If your athlete did not receive an email and needs baseline tested please contact Lishay at lallen@grhs.net.

The Wapello Elementary Food Pantry will be open Thursday, July 16th, from 2:00-4:00. We are in our new location in the brown building directly across the street from the Elementary school. We will limit the number of shoppers inside at a time and will require everyone to wear masks. We have masks if you do not have your own.
