The week's are winding down, but that doesn't mean that they are any less busy! Another busy week for our students, and it is the last week for the WHS Class of 2022! State Track will have an outstanding showing of our Track and Field Athletes, Elementary Vocal Concerts, PBIS Fun Day at the Elementary, and Baseball starts this week too! Come cheer on the students at one or more of the many events this week!

Coy Peters is the oldest son of Derek Peters and Sarah Dotson is a 2022 graduate of Wapello High School. Coy is an active four wheel rider and enjoys spending time with his younger brother, Crew. After high school, Coy plans to attend Muscatine Community College. Congratulations, Coy!

Our Wapello Indians Track and Field Team will be heading to Des Moines well represented and ready to compete in FIVE, yes FIVE different events later this week. The Arrows will field a strong team in EIGHT, yes EIGHT Events at the 2022 State Track and Field Championships later this week at Drake University. Ashton Carr, the son of Amy Carr, is a 2022 graduate of Wapello Community School. Ashton credits Mr. Parsons as the most influential teacher. “He pushed me to make gains.” With undecided plans for after graduation, Ashton is going to live life while he explores his options. We wish you the best, Ashton!

Match play is already underway, but we want to send our wishes for Good Luck to our Indians Golf Team as they play today to keep moving towards the State Tournament. “Get your work done so it won’t cause you stress all weekend.” Words of wisdom from graduating senior, Daniel Perez. Daniel is the son of Maria and Cecilio Perez. During his time at WHS, Daniel was active in football, soccer and track. Mr. Parsons is the teacher who had the biggest impact on Daniel’s high school career. “Mr. Parsons motivates me to workout with a purpose to better myself and become a better athlete.” Daniel is currently exploring his future options after graduation. Best of luck to you, Daniel!

“Stay true to yourself.” Something Dakota Lamb did will walking the halls of WHS. Dakota was a member of the Indians basketball team while in high school. He states, “Mr. Spielbauer taught me a lot about hard work and staying dedicated to your goals. Dakota is the son of Trishia Lamb and Tim Lamb. After graduating from high school, Dakota plans to enter the workforce. Do great things, Dakota!

Elementary parents: Grades K-2 Concert is Tuesday, May 17 @ 5pm. HS Auditorium. Please have your child meet in the HS music room at 4:40pm. Information was sent home. Please check take home folder. Grades 3-5 Concert is also Tuesday, May 17 @ 6pm. HS auditorium. Please have your child meet in the HS music room at 5:40pm. Music shirts will be handed out right before the concert. Concert admission will be a free will donation.

The Indians Soccer team will be the number 6 seed in this year's SEISC Tournament. The Indians will face off with Columbus, the number 3 seed tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Columbus High School (NOTE THE CHANGE IN LOCATION AND TIME) for the first round action. Tonight’s SEISC Soccer matchup between Wapello and Columbus will take place at Columbus at 7:00 pm. (Instead of Mediapolis at 5:00).

Due to the heat and the warm conditions inside the classrooms, Wapello Community Schools will be dismissing today, Friday, May 13, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.

“You know very well who you are, don't let ‘em hold you down, reach for the stars!” Words of advice from Kekai Seumanutafa, son of Jonelle Klattenhoff. At WHS, Kekai has been a member of the track, football, and wrestling teams. He also credits Mr. Parsons as his most influential teacher because he “Always believed in me and influenced me not only in the classroom but also on the field. Taught me how to get out of my comfort zone, build confidence and reach for higher opportunities.” After high school, Kekai plans to attend Des Moines Area Community College. Good Luck, Kekai!

For the safety of our students, with expected temps near 90* and potential for weather at meet time, as a precaution, we have decided to POSTPONED the 5th (and 4th) Grade Track meet until Tuesday, May 17th, next week. Mr. Murray and Ms. Bostian are senior Noah Garr’s most influential staff members. Noah says that Mr. Murray, “always intimidated me to get my work done for his class. in some cases I feel like he has helped me become a better man.” He says Ms. Bostian, “Jane always helped me and put a smile on my face.” Noah has been a football manager for two and half years at WHS. He tells underclassmen to “Never let your guard down. Keep your head held High. And don't let someone tell you that you can't do something.” Noah Garr is the son of Anthony Garr and Bridget Pierce. After high school, Noah plans to work for MUSCO Lighting and attend Southeastern Community College to complete his welding diploma. Congratulations, Noah!
