21 Days, Three weeks from today, will be the PPEL (Physical Plant and Equipment Levy) Renewal Election, the polls will be open from 7:00 am - 8:00 p.m. at the Briggs Civic Center.
Did you know that PPEL is the funding stream that allows the Wapello Community School District to resurface/replace the running/walking surface of our All-Weather Track?
The life of the running/walking surface is approximately 15 years at which time the surface is ground down to asphalt and replaced with a brand new surface. In between the replacement, the district has a maintenance coating applied, where the loose material is removed and a thin layer of new material is applied and the track is repainted. The Wapello Community School District is set to have the maintenance coating applied in the summer of 2022 at a cost of approximately $55,000. We take a portion of the revenue from the PPEL tax that we collect each year and earmark it for All-Weather Track Maintenance, so that when the time comes for a maintenance coating or a total resurfacing, we have the funds available.
That is today's PPEL Fact of the Day, so now you know!
To learn more about this important funding stream and the projects that it funds, visit our website at www.wapellocsd.org and click on the menu button and look for the PPEL Renewal Election and take a look at the resources to get a better idea of the kinds of projects that we are able to fund because our voters have kept this levy in place for the past 24 years.
