This evening, January 14th, AJ Ponce will be landing in Chicago at 5pm. AJ’s family and the Patriot Guard, are going to drive his body home. Friends of AJ are asking for community support.
It is an estimated 4 hour drive from Chicago to Wapello, and given the weather forecast for tonight, it may very well be a longer trip from Chicago to Wapello.
Friend’s are asking that the community line up along the highway, park safely, and show their support to the family. For the safety of everyone, please do not park on the shoulder of the highway, there are plenty of places between Wapello’s north side and the Franklin Street turnoff. Backyard Buildings, Lathrop’s Outdoors, Sal Vitale’s, the former Wapello Sale Barn, the Historical Society Museum, Farmer’s Elevator, Wapello High School, or the Louisa County Courthouse, would be good locations to show your support to the family. If you have a candle to light, please bring it with you, if you do not, please use the flashlight on your smartphone.
Updates will be posted on social media, there are multiple people coordinating this effort that will be updating throughout the evening.
Just a reminder, there is No School today, Friday, January 14, 2022 for Teacher In-Service. An announcement will be made later today regarding tonight's activities dependent on the weather. Stay tuned to our social media feeds, website, and mobile app for information.

WRESTLING UPDATES for Sat., Jan. 15th: The JV/Girls Tournament at Independence has been cancelled due to weather conditions and timing. The V tournament at WACO will now start at 12:00 pm (instead of 10:00 am). Check back to our social media sites for more updates.
Friday, Jan. 14th basketball games vs Hillcrest Academy has been postponed. Watch our media sources for an updated date and time.
SCHEDULE UPDATE: The JH Boys Basketball team will take on Columbus at home on Jan. 25th (instead of Jan. 24th). Also, to confirm, the JH Boys game @ L-M will be played on Friday, Feb 4th. All JH games begin at 4:30 pm.
The Wapello CSD Board of Directors will meet on 1/19/22 at 6:00 p.m. at the Wapello CSD Central Administration Office at 6:00 p.m. for their regular monthly meeting.
