Reminder that all teacher have "office hours" set up and your child is strongly encouraged to attend these Zoom sessions. We realized this is not always possible, but if you can, we really would love to see the kids. This is PK-12, every week until the end of the "scheduled" school year. Please, email the teachers with questions. Be Safe! #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride

In a small town; the lights of the athletic complex act as a signal to the community to show their pride. In these unprecedented times, we illuminate the fields to show our solidarity, our hope, and express the emotions felt in the forfeiture of the spring seasons. And tonight, we lit one field longer to honor a member of the class of 2020 who was taken entirely too soon. As you look through tonight's photos and drone footage, think of the athletes who won't get to compete this spring. Especially those of the class of 2020. https://youtu.be/F6QVjWvzt2Y (photo and drone credit to Eric Small) #wearewapello #SJB ##wapellotribepride

Tonight’s #lightupIA will happen in just a few moments. The lights will remain on for 20 minutes on the baseball, football, and softball fields. We ask if you come to the parking lot that you stay in your vehicles. The lights of the softball field will remain on for an added three minutes to pay tribute to a member of the class of 2020 who died suddenly in this date in 2017. #lightupIA #wearewapello #wapellotibepride

April 17, 2020 Update: Well...we all knew it was coming, but it is still a bit of a shock. Governor Reynolds announced that schools will not reopen this school year. At this point, everyone, and I do mean everyone, has more questions than answers. But, here are some things that we do know: 1. We will work on a plan that will allow people to come and get their belongings out of the school buildings. 2. All spring sports and activities have been canceled. We will receive guidance on summer activities by June 1, as per the governor's statements today. 3. Prom, Graduation, Awards Night, and all of the other end of year events all are on hold. Obviously, they won't happen in May. However, these are important events in the lives of students. Therefore, I think we have a duty to try to salvage things as best we can. Plans will be in the works and more information will be provided when it is finalized. 4. Our commitment to maintaining connections with our students remains unchanged. Distance learning is not ideal. It is full of shortcomings, and everyone is trying to figure it out. Some things will work. Some things will not. Thank you for your support as we continue to work to do what is best for our students. 5. Finally, to the class of 2020. This is not the spring you were expecting, nor is it the spring we were hoping you would have. Please know that we are going to work very hard to provide you with as many of the experiences of your final months of high school as possible. They just may happen at an odd time of year. And please, please, please follow the guidelines: Wash your hands Cover your cough Wash your hands Stay at home. I don't know how to make it any plainer. STAY AT HOME. Wash your hands. If you absolutely must go somewhere, practice social distancing. Wash your hands #wearewapello #wapellotribepride

April 16, 2020 Update: *****Governor Reynolds surprised us all today when she did make any announcements regarding school closings. She has assured everyone that schools would have at least two weeks notice before any new announcements take effect. That means tomorrow is the deadline. Stay tuned... *****To add just a little bit of humor to life, I've included one of my favorite "Dad jokes." My children love it when I share these, so here you go. Here are the 3 unwritten rules of life... 1. 2. 3. Okay, at least I found it funny... *****Students, remember to attend the various Zoom sessions your teachers have set up for you. Yes, they are optional, but it's important to maintain contact with your school life, even if you can't do it in person. *****We won't even talk about the snow coming into the area tonight. *****And lest you forget: Wash your hands. Cover your cough. Wash your hands. Stay at home. Yes, this means you. Even if you aren't sick. Stay at home. Wash your hands. Practice social distancing. Wash your hands. #wearewapello #wapellotribepride

In Mrs. Small's 6th & 7th grade Math class, she posts a problem of the day (POD). Yesterday, she posted this problem: Ron and Rebecca work in a cube factory. Each cube has 6 faces. Ron lines up 6 cubes in a row and pushes them along a table, and Rebecca sprays paint on the cubes. The faces of the cubes that are touching the table and each other won't get painted. What is the total number of faces that will get painted? Cade Lundvall, 7th grader, shared this video on how he came up with his answer! EXCELLENT JOB, CADE! Here is Cade's Video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/wsqZ9co7D63zcNEG7

One of our great partners, Louisa Communications reached out to us today and wanted us to pass on to students and families that there is free Wi-Fi located at the Wapello North End Park, and also in downtown Morning Sun. If you are in need of a Wi-Fi connection, these two areas do have free Wi-Fi that can be accessed. #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride
