May 8, 2020 Update: Happy Friday, everyone! Remember to pick up your missing clothes, notebooks, clothes, pencils, clothes, etc...from the school buildings. It's a shame your closets are sitting half empty when your clothes are on a lost and found table. There have been many rumors floating around about summer activities. Some say baseball and softball will start up. Some say the seasons are a lost cause. Governor Reynolds has said that she will issue guidance on summer activities by June 1. I'm confident we'll hear something before June 1. But, until the governor makes an announcement, everything is just a rumor. With certain parts of Iowa's economy opening up, the guidance from public health remains largely the same. Wash your hands. Cover your cough. Wash your hands. If you are in a high risk group, stay home. Wash your hands. If you are out and about, practice social distancing of at least 6 feet. Wash your hands. Enjoy the weekend, everyone. I think it's going to get chilly. #wearewapello #wapellotribepride

Friday's first Senior Shoutout is to Jaeden Hoag. He is the son of Jeremy and Rebecca Hoag. During high school, Jaeden has been a member of the Track and Football teams for three years. After graduation, Jaeden plans to attend Central College to study Exercise Science, then own a gym, or pursue a career in law enforcement. We asked Jaeden to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on his life while in school. He said All of Them because, "the staff at Wapello have always been good to me, and I appreciate all of you putting up with my antics, and teaching me to never give up, thank you for being apart of my life." When asked Jaeden his advice for underclassmen, hesaid "Don't take anything or anyone for granted, you never know when something is going to be ripped out of your grasp. Life is hard, but it's also what you make of it, you dont have time to be unhappy, Good luck kids." Congratulations and best wishes to Jaeden as he graduates from WHS with the class of 2020. #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride #classof2020s

Today's second Senior Shoutout goes out to Morgan Grimm. Morgan is the son of Robin and Jeb Grimm. For the past three years, Morgan has been a memeber of the Soccer team. After graduation, Morgan plans to study and work in the Electrical field. When we asked Morgan which staff member has had the greatest impact on him during his high school tenure he said Mr. Bill Dunham. This is because "[he] taught me things I didn’t know in Shop and I could do hands on activities." Morgan's advice to underclassmen is simply to "Enjoy it!" Congratulations and best wishes to Morgan on his graduation from WHS with the class of 2020 #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride #classof2020

May 7, 2020 Update: ***Remember to contact the school to pick up your personal belongings. The piles are getting smaller, but we still have lots and lots of things that really belong in your own house, rather than the school. Check for missing clothes. Chances are good that they are sitting at one of the schools! ***Seniors, please contact either Michelle Dickey or Jolene Standford regarding senior T-shirts. They want to make sure every senior has a shirt. No cost to you. The cost has been covered by donors. ***Kids, I hope all of you washed your feet after reading yesterday's update. If not, wash them especially well tonight! ***Today, the guidelines are presented to you in Esperanto. This language was created in the late 1800s and was supposed to become the universal language that replaced all of the other languages on the planet. Yeah, well, that was a big failure. But, the language lives on. Enjoy. Lavu viajn manojn. Kovru vian tuson. Lavu viajn manojn. Restu hejme. Lavu viajn manojn. Praktiku socian distancadon. Lavu viajn manojn. #wearewapello #wapellotribepride

Happy Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! We are in strange times right now, and school certainly doesn't look like it did only a few months ago. But one of the lessons that COVID-19 is teaching us is that schools play a huge role in the lives of our students and our community. And schools can't operate without amazing people. And that's what we have, absolutely amazing people. So, thank you to all of the teachers and staff who are figuring out how to operate in different ways, with different technologies, with different expectations, and a whole lot of unknowns. Thank you for stepping up and confronting this latest challenge. Your work, much of it out of sight and behind the scenes, is vitally important and tremendously appreciated. Thank you. Mike

March 6, 2020 Update: If you haven't picked up your personal belonging from the school, please call the school and make arrangements to get them. School fulfill many functions, but serving as a thrift store for lost articles of clothing is a role we will gladly give up! Today, I decided to share a gross fact with everyone. Did you know that, on average, your feet have over 250,000 sweat glands and give off almost 1 cup of sweat EACH DAY? Something to ponder... And while you're pondering... Wash your hands. Cover your cough. Wash your hands. Stay home. Resist the temptation. Stay home. Wash your hands. If you leave home, practice social distancing. Wash your hands. #wearewapello #wapellotribepride

May 5, 2020 Update: You guys thought you were going to be able to avoid my update for a day, didn't you? Well, the jokes on you, because here we go... And after all of that lead-in, there isn't much new to report. If you weren't able to get to the buildings to pick up your child's belongings, you can still call the school and arrange a time. Also, remember to ask about the lost and found items. It is absolutely amazing how many clothes go missing from kids' closets over the course of a year. And what's up with single socks? How does someone lose one sock? It is truly a mystery. And no update would be complete without... Wash your hands. Cover your cough. Wash your hands. Stay home. 'Nuf said. Wash your hands. Practice social distancing. Wash your hands. #wearewapello #wapellotribepride
