Today's second Senior Shoutout goes to Tabitha Belzer. She is the daughter of Nathan and Rebecca Belzer. While in high school Tabitha has been active in Special Olympics for four years participating in Basketball, Softball, Soccer and Track . Tabitha's future plans are to continue living life to the fullest, while spreading love (and hugs) where ever she goes. We asked Tabitha to name a teacher/staff member who has had an impact on her life. She named Mrs. Kristin Yotter for this because, "She taught me to love math and we always have fun in her class." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Tabitha said "Love each other and have a great day." Our first Senior Shoutout for Wednesday goes out to Garyth Peck. Garyth is the son of Dawn Worley and Darrin Peck. After graduation, Garyth's plan include starting in the workforce. We asked Garyth to name a teacher/staff member who has made an impact on his life while in school. He named Mrs. Shannon Salazar because, "She made the scary situation of switching from elementary to high school tolerable and less frightening." Our second Senior Shoutout for today goes out to Mitchell Moore. Mitchell is the son of Dave and Ann Moore. Mitchell played golf for the Indians for one year, and was a four year participant in Wrestling (2 time State qualifier) and Football. Mitchell plans to attend Marshalltown Community College and will enter the Utility Technician Program and pursue a career as a Electrical Lineman after graduation. We asked Mitchell to name a teacher/staff member who has made an impact on his life while in school. Mitchell named Mr. Brandon Brown because, "I liked his class and it was fun everyday." When we asked Mitchell his advice to the underclassmen of WHS, he said, "Stay in school and make the most out of it, because you only get four years to make good friends and have fun!" During high school, Ricky has been a member of the Track (3 time State qualifier) and Football teams for four years, and Wrestling for one year. After graduation, Ricky plans to attend William Penn University to continue his academic and Football career. We asked Ricky to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on his life while in school. He said Mrs. Tina Pforts because, "She has always been there with me ever since I was in kindergarten because she had been a para to one of my former classmates Mason. She has also always helped me with homework if needed and has been by my side through life and school whenever I need her." March 11, 2020 Update:
The weather yesterday felt like a day in late fall, rather than spring. I'm really hoping it was a fluke.
Governor Reynolds hinted that she will reveal some details tomorrow about continued reopening efforts. I have no idea what those details might be. Time will tell.
I will be out of commission for a couple days, so there won't be any daily updates. Fear not. They shall return.

School Meals Reminder.
Please remember that the school is still offering breakfast and lunches from 10:00-11:00 every Monday and Wednesday. Just pull behind the Elementary by the gym and they will be there ready to get you these FREE meals. These are for any students ages 0-18.

While in high school, Jesse has participated in Cross-Country for two years. He was also a member of the Track team, Band and Choir all four years. May 8, 2020 Update:
Happy Friday, everyone! Remember to pick up your missing clothes, notebooks, clothes, pencils, clothes, etc...from the school buildings. It's a shame your closets are sitting half empty when your clothes are on a lost and found table.
There have been many rumors floating around about summer activities. Some say baseball and softball will start up. Some say the seasons are a lost cause. Governor Reynolds has said that she will issue guidance on summer activities by June 1. I'm confident we'll hear something before June 1. But, until the governor makes an announcement, everything is just a rumor.
With certain parts of Iowa's economy opening up, the guidance from public health remains largely the same.

After graduation, Jaeden plans to attend Central College to study Exercise Science, then own a gym, or pursue a career in law enforcement. He said All of Them because, "the staff at Wapello have always been good to me, and I appreciate all of you putting up with my antics, and teaching me to never give up, thank you for being apart of my life." Wapello Elementary would like to welcome Teresa Coleman as the new Elementary Secretary! Teresa will replace Phyllis Connolly who will be retiring later this month, after 35 years of service to the Wapello Community School District.
Teresa has lived in the Wapello Community for the past 15 years, her family consists of her husband Tim, and her children Luray (4), and her son Jack (3). Teresa attended Southeastern Community College and Western Illinois University.
Prior to starting at Wapello Elementary, Teresa worked for Louisa County in the Treasurer’s Office and as a dispatcher at the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office.
In her spare time, you will find Teresa being with family and friends and spending time outside enjoying activities with her kids. Teresa has only been at Wapello Elementary for this past week, but she noted that, "In the short time I have worked at Wapello Elementary, I am amazed at how devoted and caring the staff is for the students who attend this school. I am very excited to get to know all the children, along with their families, when school starts back up! Please help us to welcome Teresa to the Wapello Community School District and wish her well in her new position!

***Remember to contact the school to pick up your personal belongings. The piles are getting smaller, but we still have lots and lots of things that really belong in your own house, rather than the school. Check for missing clothes. Chances are good that they are sitting at one of the schools!
***Seniors, please contact either Michelle Dickey or Jolene Standford regarding senior T-shirts. They want to make sure every senior has a shirt. No cost to you. The cost has been covered by donors.

Happy Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! We are in strange times right now, and school certainly doesn't look like it did only a few months ago. But one of the lessons that COVID-19 is teaching us is that schools play a huge role in the lives of our students and our community. And schools can't operate without amazing people. And that's what we have, absolutely amazing people. So, thank you to all of the teachers and staff who are figuring out how to operate in different ways, with different technologies, with different expectations, and a whole lot of unknowns. Thank you for stepping up and confronting this latest challenge. Your work, much of it out of sight and behind the scenes, is vitally important and tremendously appreciated. Thank you.
