Today's second Senior Shoutout goes out to Morgan Grimm. Morgan is the son of Robin and Jeb Grimm. For the past three years, Morgan has been a memeber of the Soccer team. After graduation, Morgan plans to study and work in the Electrical field. When we asked Morgan which staff member has had the greatest impact on him during his high school tenure he said Mr. Bill Dunham. This is because "[he] taught me things I didn’t know in Shop and I could do hands on activities." Morgan's advice to underclassmen is simply to "Enjoy it!" Thursday's first Senior Shoutout goes to Madyson Reid. Mady is the daughter of Dave Reid and Jamie Ewart. While in high school Mady has been active in Basketball for four years, and softball for 5 years. Mady's future plans include attending Indian Hills Community College to study Radiologic Technology. We asked Mady to name a teacher/staff member who has had an impact on her life. She named Mr. Micah Peck for this because, "[he] always told me that 'you can go further in life than you expect to'." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Mady said "Live everyday of high school like it’s always your last day." March 6, 2020 Update: If you haven't picked up your personal belonging from the school, please call the school and make arrangements to get them. Our first Senior Shoutout for today is to Frederick Davidson. Freddie is the son of Angie and Larry Davidson. During high school, he has put his talents into Art, displaying a range of abilities in showcases and contests. After graduation, Freddie plans to attend Southeastern Community College to study Photography, then transfer to the University of Iowa to study Graphic Design and Photography. We asked Freddie to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on his life while in school. He named Ms. Rena Philp because, "whenever I needed any help with anything regarding school, she was there to offer as much as she could." When asked his advice for underclassmen, Freddie said "Be yourself and keep pushing towards your dreams, it’s only up from here." Wednesday's second Senior Shoutout goes out to Alexis Knight. Alexis is the daughter of Kerry and Darin Knight. While in high school Alexis has been a member of the Student Council and NHS for two years, track for one year, Cross-Country and Soccer for three years, and Band for four years. Alexis's future plan is to attend Iowa State University to study Animal Ecology. We asked Alexis to name a teacher/staff member who has had an impact on her life while in school. She named Mrs. Annette Ungerer because, "She has always really cared for me and every single one of her students and she truly wants us all to succeed in life." When asked Alexis her advice for underclassmen, she said "Keep going and never give up no matter what." May 5, 2020 Update: You guys thought you were going to be able to avoid my update for a day, didn't you? Well, the jokes on you, because here we go... And after all of that lead-in, there isn't much new to report. If you weren't able to get to the buildings to pick up your child's belongings, you can still call the school and arrange a time. Also, remember to ask about the lost and found items. It is absolutely amazing how many clothes go missing from kids' closets over the course of a year. And what's up with single socks? Middle school and high school students can pick up their locker belongings at the practice gym once again today. The gym doors will be open from 8:00 - 12:00 and again from 1:00 - 5:00. Our second Senior Shoutout for today is to Grifin Schoonover. Grifin is the son of Curt and Miranda Schoonover. While in high school, Grifin has been very active very active in FFA for one year, NHS for two years, Choir for three years, and spent his entire high school tenure on the Cross-Country and Track teams. Grifin's future plans include pursuing his Associates Degree at Southeastern Community College, and then transfer to a university yet to be determined. When we asked Grifin which staff member has had the greatest impact on him during high shool he said Mr. Micah Peck. This is because "He taught me that even when you think you have nothing left to give, there's always another gear left." Grifin's advice to underclassmen is "Don't take school for granted." Today's first Senior Shoutout goes to Julieann Chamberlin-Johnston. Julieann is the daughter of John and Jaime Richardson. While in high school Julieann has participated in Speech for one year, NHS and Student Council for two years, and Drama and FFA for three years. Julieann's future plan is attend college somewhere to pursue a Special Education degree. We asked Julieann to name a teacher/staff member who has had an impact on her life. She named Mrs. Kristin Yotter for this because, "From the moment I stepped foot in her classroom she made me feel excepted. She helped me come out of my shell and in turn let my quirky personality flourish. She help solidify the fact that I want to be a special education teacher, to help special kids succeed just like her." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Julieann said "Always be your unique, goofy awesome self, no matter what other people may think. Being yourself is always beautiful." May 4, 2020 update: If you did not have a chance to pick up your child's belongings from the elementary school today, please call the school and make arrangements to pick them up. The secondary building is open for pickup tomorrow. High school students in the morning. Middle school parents in the afternoon. Now, we aren't going to make you come to the building twice to pick up things. If you have a high schooler and a middle schooler, you can pick up everything at once. When I was an English teacher, I would sometimes challenge my students to complete a piece of writing without using a certain letter of the alphabet. Some letters were easier than others. I asked Matthew to pick a letter of the alphabet at random. Of course, he picked the letter "E." So, here is my attempt to give today's guidelines without using the letter "E." Wash your hands. Cloak your cough. Wash your hands. Stay in your accommodations. Stay in your lodgings. Stay in your pad. Wash your hands. If you must go from your lodgings, apply social distancing. Wash your hands. Also, don't forget to stop by outside the practice gym at the high school to pick up your belongings from both your regular locker and your gym locker. The Wapello FFA has launched an online site for plant sales that have been raised in the FFA Greenhouse. Orders can be placed and paid for online and orders can be picked up curbside.
