We welcome in May with today's first Senior Shoutout. This goes out to Ada Chavarria. Ada is the daughter of Dora and Efrain Chavarria. During her high school tenure, Ada has been very involved in Soccer and Softball for one year. After graduation, Ada's future plans include going straight into the workforce. We've asked Ada to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on her life while in school. She named Mrs. Aracely Schlesing for this because, "...she always gave the best advice and helped through any problems I had, with school or outside of school." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Ada said "Cherish every moment." Our second Senior Shoutout on this first day of May goes out to Daniel Meeker. Daniel is the son of Doug Meeker and Shelly Waste. Daniel has been very active during high school, participating in Cross-Country for one year, Choir for two, Football for three and Wrestling for four (4 time state qualifier). Daniel's future plans include attending Loras College to study Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, while competing with the wrestling team. When we asked Daniel which staff member has had the greatest impact on him during high shool he said Mr. Todd (Coach) Parsons. This is because "He always pushed me to get better every day and always said "on good teams- Coaches keep players accountable, But on great teams- Players keep Players Accountable." Daniel's advice to underclassmen is "Get good grades and be a good student or student athlete. But never forget to have a little fun in high school." Schedule for Picking Up Student Belongings at the high school:
Students can start picking up their belongings starting on Monday, May 4th. All materials from student lockers and gym lockers have been placed in individual bags. The bags have been placed in the new practice gym for pickup. High school students please come to the south door of the practice gym when retrieving your materials and middle school students please come to the north door of the practice gym. You can pull up curbside, tell us what bags you are picking up, and we will have volunteers retrieve your bags for you.
Parents if you are coming to the elementary to pick up materials and the time does not coincide with times at the high school please feel free to stop by the high school and pick up your child’s belongings. We want to make this process as convenient as possible.
Unfortunately we had a number of items left on the locker room floors that we cannot connect to an owner. We have created a “lost & found” table for these items. When you get home and notice that you may be missing a pair of shoes, gym shorts, t-shirt, etc.. please call the school and you can come in and look through the “lost and found” tables.

Todays' first Senior Shoutout is to Adam Kerr. Adam is the son of Lynn Smith and Richard Kerr. Adam has spent many hours of his high school career working in nursing homes, and has been a Certified Nursing Assistant for a year now. After graduation, Adam plans to attend Southeastern Community College to study in the Nursing program, then obtain his BSN from the University of Iowa. We asked Adam to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on his life while in school. He named Mrs. Diana Mairet because, "[she] has pushed me to work hard at my studies. She has taught me to never give up even if I am struggling. She has always been available if I had any questions." When asked his advice for underclassmen, Adam said "Find what you love to do and build and grow off that. Don’t be afraid to take new opportunities." Our second Senior Shoutout for Thursday is to Lily Williams. Lily is the daughter of Johnnie Williams and Sheri Crawford. While in high school Lily has been a member of the NHS for two years, and participated in Speech for one. Lily's future plan is to take a gap year as "I wait to see where God leads me". We asked Lily to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on her life while in school. Lily said this was Ms. Jane Bostian because, "[she] isn't just a teacher. She's a friend. She's willing to always listen, and she dishes out advice when needed. Ms. Bostian also goes out of her way to help others even when it doesn't benefit her. She's helped me with an abundant amount of papers and speeches over the years (and she's helped others who aren't even in her class). She's been there for me since sophomore year, and she's the type of teacher who just doesn't give up on her students. She's never given up on me, and I'm thankful for her." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Lily said "Live for Jesus Christ and Him alone because He's the way, the truth, and the life." No new school information was released today, which is OK. These days, no news is good news.
The school food pantries will be open again this week. The Elementary pantry is open from 2:30-4:30. The HS pantry is open from 3:30-5:30.
High school students, Zoom is a wonderful thing. You should really take advantage of it, and your teachers are giving you amazing opportunities to do so. You should really check it out! Hint...Hint...

Micah has been very involved in activities while in high school; including one year on the Golf team, two years in Track, Softball, Choir, NHS, and Student Council. For four years, she was also on the Volleyball team. Micah's future plans include attending Indian Hills Community College to study radiological technology, then transfer to the University of Iowa to specialize in ultrasound and sonography. As we did before, we asked Micah to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on their lives while in school. She named Mr. & Mrs. Brandon and Megan Brown for this because, "[they] always there for me academically and personally." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Micah said "Cherish every moment, it truly goes by so fast." Our second Wednesday Senior Shoutout is for Blake Maine. Blake is the son of Shawn and Melissa Maine. For four years, Blake has participated in Cross-Country, Student Council, Speech and Drama, and Band. He also been in Choir, NHS, and FCCLA for two years. After graduation, Blake plans to attend Muscatine Community College, then transfer to Iowa State University to double major in Theater and Computer Engineering. When we asked Blake which staff members has had the greatest impact on him during his high shool tenure he said Ms. Bostian, Mrs. Moulton, and Mr. & Mrs. Peck. This is because "I honestly can't decide between the four of them, and it wouldn't feel right to leave three of them out. They have all helped me in all different ways become the person I am today, and I can't tell them thank you enough. Every single one of them have spent countless hours of their freetime with me practicing, teaching me, or even just hanging out. I know I don't say it enough, but thank you all for helping me on my path to a new beginning, and I cant wait for you all to see where I go in the future!" Blake's advice to underclassmen is "Do all of your work to the best of your ability, have a ton of fun, but not to much 😉, and remember to keep making memories while you still can because you never know when you will walk down the halls of your high school for the last time." AnnMarie said this was Mr. Micah Peck because, "he never let me give up and he always pushed me to be my best. He has always showed me that he believes in me and he has always been there for me throughout my years and Wapello." Happy Tuesday, everyone!
No new school announcements from the governor today. She did confirm that she is lifting the ban on in-person worship services throughout the entire state. Yesterday, there was some confusion about this question, so I was glad she clarified things today.
Yesterday, we sent out information for parents about picking up their student's supplies and belongings. Be sure to contact the elementary if you have questions or concerns.
