Our second Senior Shoutout is to Daniel Hemphill. Daniel is the son of Shane and Michele Hemphill. For two years, Daniel participated in NHS and Choir, while running on the Cross-Country team for three years, along with four years in FFA and Track. Daniel was also a memeber of the local 4-H club, and a member of the County Coucil. After graduation, Daniel plans to attend a Iowa State University to study Agriculture Business. When we asked Daniel which staff member has had the greatest impact on him during his high shool tenure he said Mrs. Kristin Marshall. This is because "She always has a positive attitude. Even if she’s frustrated, she never shows it. She makes my least favorite subject a little more enjoyable." Daniel's advice to underclassmen is "Take notes and listen to teachers. Today's first Senior Shoutout goes to Paige Klinedinst. Paige is the daughter of Angela & Rick Cook and Mark & Kim Klinedinst. While in high school Paige has participated in Student Council and Speech for one year, two years in Basketball, NHS, Softball and was a Footbal Cheerleader. She was also apart of the Volleyball and Choir for three years, and Track and Band for four. Paige’s future plan is to attend Southeastern Community College to study nursing. We asked the Senior to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on their lives while in school. Paige named Mrs. Jaci Thornburg for this because, "She always made sure I was doing okay and always found a way to put a smile on my face no matter what. She cares for every single student." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Paige said "Live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment. If you are having a bad day, find the good in it." Our second Senior Shoutout is for Skyler Patrick. Skyler is the daughter of Lisa and David Patrick. While in high school she has participated in many activities; including Football Cheerleading, Basketball (manager), Band, NHS and was a Baseball manager for one year. She's also participated in Volleyball and FFA for four years, as well as Poms (in some manner). Skyler's future plans include attending Southeastern Community College to study early childhood development. We asked Skyler to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on their lives while in school. Skyler said this was Mrs. Danielle Wolfe because, "[she] always been the teacher I could talk to about anything or if I needed a shoulder to cry on. She has always influenced me to be the best me and I will miss her very much next year." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Skyler said "Never take your senior year for granted because you never know when it could be taken away from you." Wednesday's first Senior Shoutout is Aiden Housman. Aiden is the son of Doug and Faith Housman. While in high school he has participated in many activities; including two years of Basketball, Wrestling, Choir, and NHS. Along with four years of participation in FFA, Baseball, Track, and Cross-Country (in which he qualified for state three times). Furthermore, Aiden's leadership skills have been displayed on the PBIS Student Committee (since 7th grade). Aiden's future plans include attending Wartburg College to study Business with an emphasis in Sports Management and to continue running on the cross-country team. We asked Aiden to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on their lives while in school. Aiden named Mr. Micah Peck because, "I was shown how to work hard. Without Mr. Peck, I wouldn't have accomplished nearly as much as I have." When asked his advice for underclassmen, Aiden said "underclassmen shouldn't take anything for granted. April 21, 2020 Update: Happy Tuesday, everyone! Just a reminder to all of the students out there. Governor Reynolds has closed school buildings. She has not closed down school. Our second Senior Shoutout for today goes out to Caden Watts. Caden is the son of Angie Phillips and Steve Watts. After graduation, Caden plans to join the work force. When we asked Cade which staff member has had the greatest impact on him during his high shool tenure he said Mrs. Moulton. This is because "she was the reason I got into reading." Caden's advice to underclassmen is "It's tough, but it'll be over before you know it." Today’s first Senior Shoutout goes to Mercedes Becerra. Mercedes is the daughter of Roy and Brandy Becerra. While in high school Mercedes has participated in Student Council for one year, and in volleyball, and band for four years. She has also been involved with FCA for one year. Mercedes’ future plan is to join the Navy, and will leave for bootcamp on July 29th. We asked the Senior to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on their lives while in school. Mercedes named Mr. & Mrs. Micah and Monique Peck for this because, "They have helped me every step of the way to become a better student and person" When asked her advice for underclassmen, Mercedes said "Don’t take these moments for granted. Like us, it was taken away from us in a split second. Love one another as always and have fun." While in high school she has participated in many activities; including Student Council and FCCLA for one year, NHS and softball for two years, and has spent four years in volleyball, basketball, track, and band. Holly's future plans include attending Southeastern Community College to study nursing. We asked the Senior to name one teacher/staff member who had an impact on their lives while in school. Holly also named Mr. Todd Parsons as this person because, "He influenced my life in many ways. He has taught me so much about not only sports but also life. He taught me to be disciplined, to be motivated, and to remember the why- even on bad days. He taught me that my bad days are never as bad as I think they are, and to always have a positive attitude. He helped me build confidence in myself. He was always there— to support me, to push me, to give me advice, or just to listen. He is caring and selfless and everything that anyone could ever want in a teacher and/or a coach. Thank you, Parsons." When asked her advice for underclassman, Holly said "Find Joy in the Journey." We are working on plans for kids to be able to come and get their things our of the school buildings. More information will be coming as it is finalized. Reminder that all teacher have "office hours" set up and your child is strongly encouraged to attend these Zoom sessions. Attention Middle School Parents and Students: there are new learning opportunities up on our website for your grade levels! The middle school teachers have worked together to create a weekly choice board of activities for each subject area. The links have been emailed to all middle school students, but can also be found on the school website. You can click on "Menu" to find the "Quicklinks". The "Middle School Choice Boards" are listed under this heading, click on the link to be taken to each grade level's choice board. New choice boards will be sent out each Monday morning. With the recent news of school closure, we wanted to take the time to honor our Seniors. Today we'll honor two of these Seniors, and our first is Tyler Meek-Cooley. Tyler is the son of Mark and Brook Cooley. While in high school he has participated in several activities; including wrestling and soccer for one year. Football, track and FFA for four years. He was also a member of the local for 4-H club for six years. Tyler's future plans include attending Simpson college to study Athletic Administration and to play football. We asked the Senior to name one teacher/staff member who had an impact on their lives while in school. Tyler named Mr. Todd Parsons as this person because, "He would do anything for me if I needed something." When asked his advice for underclassman, Tyler said "don’t take anything for granted." In a small town; the lights of the athletic complex act as a signal to the community to show their pride. In these unprecedented times, we illuminate the fields to show our solidarity, our hope, and express the emotions felt in the forfeiture of the spring seasons.
