April 17, 2020 Update: Well...we all knew it was coming, but it is still a bit of a shock. Governor Reynolds announced that schools will not reopen this school year. At this point, everyone, and I do mean everyone, has more questions than answers. But, here are some things that we do know: 1. We will work on a plan that will allow people to come and get their belongings out of the school buildings. 2. All spring sports and activities have been canceled. We will receive guidance on summer activities by June 1, as per the governor's statements today. 3. Prom, Graduation, Awards Night, and all of the other end of year events all are on hold. Obviously, they won't happen in May. However, these are important events in the lives of students. Therefore, I think we have a duty to try to salvage things as best we can. Plans will be in the works and more information will be provided when it is finalized. 4. Our commitment to maintaining connections with our students remains unchanged. Distance learning is not ideal. It is full of shortcomings, and everyone is trying to figure it out. Some things will work. Some things will not. Thank you for your support as we continue to work to do what is best for our students. 5. Finally, to the class of 2020. This is not the spring you were expecting, nor is it the spring we were hoping you would have. Please know that we are going to work very hard to provide you with as many of the experiences of your final months of high school as possible. They just may happen at an odd time of year. And please, please, please follow the guidelines: Wash your hands Cover your cough Wash your hands Stay at home. I don't know how to make it any plainer. STAY AT HOME. Wash your hands. If you absolutely must go somewhere, practice social distancing. Wash your hands #wearewapello #wapellotribepride

Upcoming School Board Meeting
Oh, the important of such a tiny word... The governor did NOT make any school announcements today.

April 16, 2020 Update: *****Governor Reynolds surprised us all today when she did make any announcements regarding school closings. She has assured everyone that schools would have at least two weeks notice before any new announcements take effect. That means tomorrow is the deadline. Stay tuned... *****To add just a little bit of humor to life, I've included one of my favorite "Dad jokes." My children love it when I share these, so here you go. Here are the 3 unwritten rules of life... 1. 2. 3. Okay, at least I found it funny... *****Students, remember to attend the various Zoom sessions your teachers have set up for you. Yes, they are optional, but it's important to maintain contact with your school life, even if you can't do it in person. *****We won't even talk about the snow coming into the area tonight. *****And lest you forget: Wash your hands. Cover your cough. Wash your hands. Stay at home. Yes, this means you. Even if you aren't sick. Stay at home. Wash your hands. Practice social distancing. Wash your hands. #wearewapello #wapellotribepride

In Mrs. Small's 6th & 7th grade Math class, she posts a problem of the day (POD). Yesterday, she posted this problem: Ron and Rebecca work in a cube factory. Each cube has 6 faces. Ron lines up 6 cubes in a row and pushes them along a table, and Rebecca sprays paint on the cubes. The faces of the cubes that are touching the table and each other won't get painted. What is the total number of faces that will get painted? Cade Lundvall, 7th grader, shared this video on how he came up with his answer! EXCELLENT JOB, CADE! Here is Cade's Video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/wsqZ9co7D63zcNEG7

One of our great partners, Louisa Communications reached out to us today and wanted us to pass on to students and families that there is free Wi-Fi located at the Wapello North End Park, and also in downtown Morning Sun. If you are in need of a Wi-Fi connection, these two areas do have free Wi-Fi that can be accessed. #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride

April 15, 2020 Update: Snow. On April 15th. That is wrong on so many levels. Governor Reynolds, in today's press conference, talked quite a bit about how different people have stepped up to provide help and services for people in need right now. As I was listening, all I could think was, "I sure hope no one is surprised by this." When there is a need, the people in Louisa county have always stepped up and done what needed to be done. As this pandemic drags on, I'm sure nerves are starting to fray and people are finding themselves on edge. I'm not a mental health expert, but the articles I have read tell me this is a normal response to prolonged trauma. Everyone is dealing with this in their own way, and there is no right way. May we all remember to be patient and understanding with each other. We're all sick of hearing about mitigation strategies. But, they're still important. So... Wash your hands. Cover your cough. Wash your hands. Stay at home. Even if you are not sick. Stay at home. Wash your hands. Practice social distancing. Wash your hands. #wearewapello #wapellotribepride

Parents and students: please be reminded that both elementary and secondary teachers are hosting zoom sessions for WCSD students! Each day of the week has a full lineup of teachers that would LOVE to interact with students. Please encourage your child to log on if possible! Log in information has been emailed to the parents of elementary students and to all 6th -12th grade students. Thank you to the many students that have joined us so far... we would love to see those numbers climb each day! #wearewapello. #wapellotribepride

April 14, 2020 Update: Happy Tuesday, everyone! The sun is shining and the temperature is perfect. Okay, most people would probably say it's a little chilly, but I like it! Governor Reynolds had no new school information in her press conference today. We anticipate an announcement regarding schools at some point this week. Governor Reynolds did spend quite a bit of time talking about the surge in positive COVID-19 cases in Louisa county. I encourage everyone to keep all of the employees of Tyson Foods in your thoughts and prayers. In the immortal words of Troy, Gabriella, and the rest of the cast of High School Musical, "We're All In This Together." For those of you who have no clue what I'm talking about, search for the song on YouTube. Bonus points if you then post a video recreating the group dance. In all seriousness, please follow the guidelines that have been put forth: Wash your hands. Cover your cough. Wash your hands. Stay home. Not just if you're sick. Stay home. Wash your hands. Practice social distancing if you have to go out. Wash your hands. #wearewapello #wapellotribepride
